TalkSpot is a mental health service specifically for McMaster University Faculty of Engineering students. The TalkSpot Counsellor offers informal, private consultations during drop-in hours, which are Monday to Friday, 9am-11am and 1pm-3pm. You can share what’s on your mind to get perspective, problem-solve, and hear suggestions for resources or supports. If you need help with a specific problem, or you have a lot going on and don't know where to start, sometimes you just need a safe spot to talk. TalkSpot can help you: spot the problem, spot skills & solutions, or spot campus and community supports. What you share during TalkSpot drop-in visits is completely confidential and will not be shared with any Faculty or staff.

Drop-in hours allow you to book same-day appointments on a 'first come first serve' basis. Online booking for these appointments becomes available at 8:45am each morning and you can book appointments only for that day.

If appointments are being offered today and you would like to book one, choose the type of appointment you would like (in person appointments take place in JHE-H301 and virtual appointments take place via zoom) and select the time that best works for you. Only McMaster email addresses will be accepted when scheduling an appointment.

Meet the TalkSpot Counsellor:

Kaely is an Occupational Therapist and a Mac Grad. She worked for the Canadian Mental Health Association Waterloo Wellington supporting young people with severe and persistent mental illness before returning home to work with McMaster Engineering students. She is a skilled listener passionate about post-secondary student wellness. Kaely’s brother, a Mechanical Engineer, did his undergrad in BTech, so she has a strong appreciation for the Fireball culture of innovation & excellence (but don’t ask her for math homework help–she didn’t inherit those genes!). You can ask about her very spoiled cat, Tomato, her new rescue dog, Rooster, or her unapologetic love for reality TV.

Kaely occasionally acts as a Preceptor for Student Occupational Therapists who are in their final year of the McMaster Master’s of Occupational Therapy program. Student OTs help foster current, high quality counselling support for engineering students accessing TalkSpot.
